Wyre take lead on bins

Wyre Borough Council is reassuring its residents that there are no plans to charge them for replacement bins.

Following the decision of neighbouring Fylde Borough Council to introduce a fee of £25, there has been speculation that Wyre would soon be following suit.

But although Fylde is contracted to collect waste throughout Wyre on the council's behalf, damaged or missing bins will continue to be replaced free of charge in the borough.

Councillor Vivien Taylor, Living Place Portfolio Holder for Wyre Borough Council, said: "We want our residents to know that we have no intention of charging them for replacement bins. The last thing we want to do is inflict extra financial pressures on them in these difficult economic times."
