Wyre Action To Stop Injuries

Wyre Action To Stop Injuries

From today (Friday) salt is being applied to icy footpaths in Wyre's town centres following a pooling of resources between Wyre Borough Council and Lancashire County Council.

The borough council has recently taken a delivery of salt and the county council has agreed to supply manpower and machinery to spread it on key pavements that have become dangerous to walk on.

Priority will be given to the main shopping areas in Cleveleys, Thornton, Fleetwood, Poulton and Garstang, that attract a lot of foot traffic.

Secondary roads in Wyre are also being treated by the councty councl with granite dust to provide beter grip for motorists.

Councillor Vivien Taylor, Living Places Portfolio Holder for Wyre Borough Council, said: "There is still a lot of ice and compacted snow around in Wyre, with footpaths causing the most concern in our urban areas.

"We are hoping an application of salt will make the pavements a little less slippy, but the advice is still for people to take extra care when out and about."
