Will Hotel Rooms Replace Swimming Baths?
Even before the last water trickles out of St. Annes Baths, rumours are rife that a large national hotel chain is targeting the site.
Travelodge the UK's fastest growing hotel company is looking to open a further 11,000 rooms (around 140 new hotels) by 2010. Effectively opening a new hotel every seven working days.
Travelodge has already listed Lytham St Annes a target location identifying the need for a 60 - 70 bed hotel development. The hotel chain currently operates over 300 hotels, with over 20,000 rooms, and employs around 5,000 people.
Fylde Life asks..
Do the residents, shopkeepers and existing hoteliers in St. Annes want a new hotel?
Do the merits of a new hotel development creating new jobs outweigh the needs of the community's local swimming facility?
