Wembley 90 Minutes Away

KIRKHAM & WESHAM 3, NEEDHAM MARKET 2 (Winning striker Mark Wane pictured)

KIRKHAM & WESHAM found something extra in injury time to finally get their noses in front in this pulsating FA Vase Semi-Final first-leg tie at Kellamergh Park on Saturday.

Striker Mark Wane scooped in the match winner that sends the Lancashire side south to Suffolk in seven days time with a precious one goal lead - something which looked almost impossible three minutes from time when they trailed 2-1.

Sub Matt Walwyn turned to fire in the equaliser on 87 minutes and then came Wane’s wonder goal. And all that after having gone behind early to goals from Needham Market’s Jay Dennis after five minutes and a sickener for the home defence when leading scorer Craig Parker tapped in nine minutes later for number two after a defensive mix-up. Ged Smith rose to power home a header on half-time that went in of a post from a cracker of a free-kick by James Sheppard and it was game on at last for the home side.
The second - half was all Kirkham and it was just a matter of getting a break to get back in the game. That break fell to super sub Walwyn and then that added-on time winner from 22-goal Wane.

The attendance was just 40 short of a ground record at 1,053.
MAN OF THE MATCH - Ged Smith - he was awesome!
