We Are Proud Of You
Kirkham & Wesham Football Club arrived home to spectacular welcome after winning the FA Vase Cup at Wembley.
Following the local club win (2-1) against Lowestoft Town on Sunday, not only did the townsfolk of Kirkham and Wesham turn out onto the streets, but it would seem the whole of the Fylde! Crowds, estimated at over 10,000, ten deep in parts, lined the route of the victors open-top bus tour.
The Civic Reception of the club was arranged by the Mayors of Kirkham and Wesham in tribute to a fantastic and well deserved win against all the odds. The club fans, many of whom had travelled to Wembley, were in fine voice and spirit and came equipped with flags, scarfes, air-horns and banners!
Local members of Kirkham Junior Football Club lined up to welcome their heros to the large stage set up outside of Kirkham Community Centre. Civic dignatories and guests of honour were invited to join in the celebrations.
Kirkham's Mayor, Councillor Liz Oades, presented Long Service Awards to the hard working club officials and members of the committee.
The very first edition of the Fylde Life Magazine is due out towards the end of next week and will feature a full account of the "Road to Wembley". It'll be packed with pictures of the team, the club, the big game and of course the fans and supporters. Fylde Life photographers have been out and about in Kirkham, Wesham, Kellamergh Park, Watford Gap, Wembley and of course covered the home-coming event and aim to make the very first edition of the new magazine a truly memorable keepsake for all.
