St Annes Prom Revamp: YOU decide!

St Annes Prom Revamp: YOU decide!

Could a golfing museum, major hotel or other attraction work on St Annes seafront?

Fylde folk can now see the masterplan for the sea front, ahead of it being considered by councillors next week.

The Masterplan, which offers proposed development plans and recommendations, is now available at www.fylde.gov.uk.

It has been released ahead of a meeting of the Planning Policy Scrutiny Committee where it will feature as the primary item on the agenda.

The report commissioned by the Borough Council has been produced by RPS Planning and Development Ltd, to create a new, modern, multi-use environment that is both economically and environmentally sustainable. The plans focus primarily on the area known as ‘the Island’ which is currently leased to Whitbread and Carr Royd Leisure by the Council.

Coun Paul Rigby, portfolio holder for finance and efficiency said, “We took the decision to create the masterplan as we felt it was a major responsibility of the local authority as community leader to guide and encourage high quality redevelopment of one of the town’s major assets."

Ideas suggested in the plans include aquality branded hotel development, a bowling facilit, and a health and fitness club.

Other proposals includespace for a visitor attraction, such as a golf-themed museum experience to highlight the Fyldecoast's golfing heritage.

In all the proposals the much-loved boating lake is retained and buildings are developed to complement the surroundings. One of the main features of the plans are better access to the seafront through the development thereby encouraging visitors to head towards the sea front which is currently dominated by large expanse of car parking and of buildings that don’t easily relate to each other.

The Masterplan makes several recommendations to the council which will be considered initially by the Planning Policy Scrutiny Committee on July 31.

The Scrutiny Committee’s recommendations along with the outcome of the public consultation will then be considered by a meeting of the cabinet in September.

Members of the public are invited to the meeting on July 31 at 7pm at the Town Hall in St Annes to see the full presentation.

The council is then inviting comments through the listening@fylde.gov.uk email or through the online forums available at www.fyldelife.co.uk/forums.
