Shakespeare Cuts Ribbon To Open New Park
A new natural themed play park has been opened in Fleetwood with a little help from neighbouring Shakespeare School.
A handful of youngsters helped Mayor of Wyre Councillor Russell Forsyth cut the ribbon at the seafront playground at the top of Beach Road, before dashing off to try out the rope swing and climbing logs.
Through consultation the local community has played a part in the design, which is part of a five-year programme by Wyre Borough Council to modernise the borough's play areas.
Councillor Lynne Bowen, the council's portfolio holder responsible for leisure and culture, said: "Wyre adopted a play strategy in 2007 that created a vision for providing more imaginative play areas. The popularity of Fleetwood's waterfront has made this an ideal location for one of these new facilities in a ward that had been identified as having few high quality play opportunities."
