Lytham's newest park officially opened

Lytham's newest park officially opened

Park View 4 U has held the official opening of Lytham's best-loved park.

A three-day party heralded the opening of Lytham's Park View Road Playing Fields, following a massive five-year effort to improve the facility.

Park View 4 U, the charity body founded by residents, raised millions of pounds to update the park and create the country's first ever 'three-generational park'.

The five-strong committee and their band of volunteers have created a youngster's play park, a dedicated teen zone, and a park equipment for the elderly generation.

It also boasts a professional BMX track which has already staged a full race series, a skatepark designed by professionals, a cycle track linking local schools to Lytham, and drained football fields which had been prone to flooding.

The official opening was followed by three days of party celebrations, including live music and a talent show.

Chairwoman Cath Powell said at the opening ceremony: "It is with the hard work of the group, the countless volunteers, the kids in the park, and all of the agencies involved that this has been possible.

"We now have the first 'three-generational' park in the country. The youngsters have their play area, we have the dedicated teenage areas, and then we have the equipment for senior citizens, based on the principles of Tai Chi."

Speaking at the opening ceremony, attended by around 400 people, Fylde Mayor coun Susan Fazackerley, said: "What we see here today is testament to the hard work of the five-strong committee supported by the rest of Lytham.

"The park is now officially people's favourite place in Fylde."

The new edition of Fylde Life will feature an in-depth look at the work carried out at the park.
