Last battle to save St Annes Swimming Pool

The closure of St Annes Swimming Pool is facing one last challenge from one of St Annes' veteran campaigners.

Eric Pass  - a supporter of the pool and a keen swimmer - has told Fylde Council that it is in breach of Local Plan Policy Trec 12 with plans to close the facility.

Fylde Council took the unpopular decision faced with a £1.2 million budget shortfall and rising maintenance costs at the pool.

However, the Trec policy demands that all of the borough's sporting facilities must be kept open.

Fylde Council has refuted the claims and the case may now have to go before the Local Government Ombudsman - the last chance of keeping the pool open.

Mr Pass said:"Time is simply running out and they are not rushing. We cannot put up with that or it will be too late."

Kirkham Baths - an older facility with higher maintenance costs - was given a one-year reprieve after councillors agreed to a series of measures.
