Kirkham Baths Stay of Execution as St Annes Closes

Kirkham Baths Stay of Execution as St Annes Closes

With riot police in attendence and over 50 rain-soaked protestors, the council meeting went ahead and utimately voted to close St. Annes swimming baths and keep Kirkham's pool open for the time being.

This report is courtesy of the dedicated Fylde Life Forum members of the public who took time out to attend the full council meeting held at Fylde Rugby Club this evening. Thank you.

"I was appalled that the Police were there.  A riot van was in the car park keeping an eye on around 50 freezing and soaking wet men, women, children and dogs!  Then as the debate got going inside and the heckling started, two police officers arrived.  Well when was heckling a crime?"

"The bleating sound of sheep was very worthy sound relayed by the disgruntled members of the public which was aimed at the Tory majority. Every issue that the independents raised was brushed/voted aside en bloc by the Tories."

"I am a very angry mum, resident and voter.  I had considered standing for election myself, but having witnessed tonights debacle I am convinced I would only be standing for election to a circus."

"I am totally DISGUSTED that party politics should play a part on local issue's rather than common sense."

"The common sense debate was won by the Independents, but the political effect which we as voters will have to bear was carried by the Tory Majority(sheep)."

"I have to admit I walked out along with many after Councillor Hayhurst's admirable suggestion that the councillors take a cut in their allowances was voted down."

"True democracy WAS the loser tonight"
