If You Go Down To The Beach Today...
A number of enthusiastic residents have joined forces to make Rossall Promenade at Cleveleys a friendly, clean and caring community for the residents and beach visitors.
The local residents have formed ‘Rossall Beach Residents Association’ so that everyone can be proud of the area. Janice Pickup, the Press Officer for the newly formed group, has already done a survey of beach and promenade users to ask people for their views of the Rossall beach area, and two issues that people wanted resolved quickly were litter and dog poo! The survey showed these two issues let the area down badly.
Rossall Beach residents now have a very strongly worded warning for all dog owners who visit "Eighty pairs of eyes are watching you - so please pick up your dog poo!" Offenders will be reported to the dog warden who has the powers to trace and if necessary summons you, remembering that the few who flout this law may indeed get all dogs banned from this beach. This will only cause even more dog mess on the pavements of the surrounding area so it’s in everybody’s interests to be fair and clean up. Janice said ‘Dog fouling on the promenade and beach is a major problem and very high on our agenda. Every day we get dozens of dog owners arriving by car to exercise their dogs on the beach and we are determined to get them to act responsibly and clean up their dog mess. A number of residents in the area have dogs themselves and we are promoting responsible dog ownership to visitors’.
The litter issue has also been addressed really quickly - and with the help of Wyre Community Safety Partnership new litter bins have already been put in place, making a great deal of difference. Beach access was another issue and Wyre Borough Council have come up trumps by replacing the two existing sets of steps with new ones, with new hand rails to follow by the end of the month.
Rossall Beach Residents Association is a voluntary organisation and they are desperate for funds to enable this community work to be done. If you’d like to make a donation you can make a cheque payable to Rossall Beach Residents Association and send it to The Secretary at 9 Durban Court, Cleveleys, FY5 1JL.
So that visitors and residents can all see what’s happening and what the Residents Association are working on, a website has been set up and over time lots of interesting information about new developments and what’s happening in the area will be added. Have a look at www.rossallbeach.org.uk to keep up to date.
