Guard attacked by machete man

A MACHETE-wielding raider and three accomplices stole cash from a security guard in St Annes.

The men targeted a security guard as he took a cash box from Tesco in Kilnhouse Lane, St Annes, to a waiting van outside.

He was attacked by three men and was threatened with a machete when he put up a fight. He was left with minor injuries after surrendering the cash box.

The armed raiders then escaped in a silver Mercedes, driven by a fourth man. It was later found off Mellings Lane, where police say the men changed into a white van.

Police have not revealed the amount of money stolen. They launched Lancashire Constabulary's helicopter in a bid to trace the robbers.

A spokesman for police said: "We'd be very interested to talk to anyone who saw suspicious activity in the Kilnhouse Lane areain the past few days."
