Fylde Council slated for Pool closure meeting
THREE Fylde councillors are under investigation following the rowdy meeting which sealed the fate of St Annes Swimming Pool.
Official leader of the opposition coun Liz Oades, former council leader coun Paul Hayhurst and Singleton coun Maxine Chew face an investigation by the Standards Board for England following a shocking report into the stormy meeting.
Held at Fylde Rugby Club in March, the meeting was an ill-tempered affair with disgusted members of the public shouting at Conservative councillors who voted under instruction to close the popular Swimming Pool.
Fylde's scrutinee committee, made up of councillors andmembers of the public, was apalled at the state of the proceedings and has listed a number of 'unacceptable' problems.
Concerns included the complete lack of control over the public and some councillors; poor organisation overall; and the conduct of Fylde's elected members.
Then Fylde mayor coun John Prestwich was forced to abandon the meeting for ten minutes after the situation got out of control as members of the public and councillors exchanged angry words.
