Free coaching courses for Wyre youngsters
Free sports coaching qualifications are up for grabs to people aged 14 to 19.
One-day courses are being run during the Easter holidays in tennis, football and table tennis, at the end of which participants will receive a nationally recognised qualification. All that's asked in return is that they use these new skills to volunteer at a local club.
The scheme is being run by Wyre Borough Council and the Wyre & Fylde Schools Sports Partnership. Jonathan Pearce, the council's Volunteer Co-ordinator, said: "The courses will set youngsters up with what is likely to be their first sporting qualification and then guarantee them valuable coaching experience as they volunteer their time.
"Volunteers are a key element in keeping smaller sports clubs going and we are doing our best to ensure Wyre has some of the best trained volunteers around.
Details of the courses are as follows:
- Tennis Leader Course, Monday 13 April, 9.30am to 5pm at Moorland Tennis Club, Poulton
- Table Tennis Networker Course, Tuesday 14 April, 10am to 4pm, Garstang High School
- FA Junior Football Organisers Course, Thursday 16 April, 10am to 4pm, Thornton Cleveleys Football Club.
Spaces are limited. Contact Jonathan Pearce on 01253 887450 or email jpearce@wyrebc.gov.uk for details.
