Bobbies on the beat needed in rural Fylde

Staff shortages mean rural Fylde residents don't have the police cover they need.

Two more officers are needed to cover the population of 10,500. Wesham Town Council has forwarded concerns over the shortage to Lancashire's Chief Constable Steve Finnigan.

Top officers have vowed that the gap will be plugged - and that there are no plans to permanently reduce the number of officers to the present five. Inspector Derek Darwin said there were no plans to reduce the number of officers and that the shortage was due to: "one police officer at present off work injured, and a police community support officer who has been promoted to a PC."
