Baths Trust The Way Forward
Following the planned closure of St. Annes baths by Fylde Borough Council a meeting was held in Kirkham Community Centre to develop a plan to secure Kirkham Baths future.
Chaired by Kirkham's Mayor, Councillor Liz Oades and comprising of local town, parish and borough representatives the packed public meeting held on Tuesday was declared a resounding success. The meeting heard that a plan to safeguard the swimming facility in Kirkham involved Kirkham itself taking charge of the baths by way of a charitable trust being formed. "Support and contributions are also being sought from Fylde and the surrounding Parish Councils, the areas PCT, local organisations and private donations" stated Cllr Oades.
Kirkham Councillor Elaine Silverwood explained "Kirkham Baths is the property of the local people, once the Trust is set up, the future will be in the hands of its supporters."
It was suggested that a minimum of 12 volunteers should help form the Trust and to provide expertise to assist with the marketing, planning and scheduling of the baths services. Friends of Kirkham Baths, Chairman Raymond Green registered 12 volunteers from the well attended public meeting. Borough Councillor Simon Renwick stated "so long as progress is being made, Fylde Borough Council will support and keep the baths open".
